Charity

I have never been really disposed to volunteer work or charity. I used to love helping my mother shop for the needy child whose name we picked off the Christmas tree at church. Other than that though, I did a little in high school through National Honors Society and CCD. Pretty sad, huh?

In November, a girl on my dormitory floor (also named Elaine!) invited everyone on the floor to participate in a "knitting night."I had been hoping for one for a long time, so I was there! Even better: we were provided with knitting needles, crochet hooks, and yarn! BLISS :) We were making baby blankets for the Preemie Project, which provides blankets, hats, and mittens to premature babies at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. It felt so good to chain(I'm crocheting it) for charity. The blanket still isn't done... my sad excuse is that I had to finish Christmas presents. Last night, though, I picked it back up and resumed. Again, it feels great to think of the itsy-bitsy baby who might get this blanket. It is a shell pattern made with the blue Lion Brand Pound of Love!

From here on, I will have to commit myself to regularly donating some of my projects. I think maybe socks for soldiers next?!
