Color Update

Adding color to knitting projects is so easy! I have only tried stranding so far, which could be the easiest way to use color; I don't really know. But I am working on a checkered purple and pink scarf for Ms. Ellie that is really cute. As soon as it is finished, I will load a pic on here. For now, here is how stranding works.

I casted on 22 stitches with one color, Purple.

The maximum number of stitches in each color that you can have together is 4, so I made each square 4 stitches long, with 1 purple stitch on each end:
1 purple, 4 pink, 4 purple, 4 pink, 4 purple, 4 pink, 1 purple

One you have casted on:
Next row, knit 1 purple, THEN JUST TIE THE PINK YARN ONTO THE PURPLE YARN RIGHT BY THE NEXT STITCH. LET THE PURPLE HANG, AND KNIT 4 STITCHES WITH THE PINK. Seriously, it's that simple. When you are ready to knit the next four purple stitches, let the pink drop and knit with the purple. You will see strands that pull across the back like the photo I have included. That is perfectly fine.

One important thing that I would like to add is that my scarf is rolling like crazy. Combinations of knit and purl stitches(I purled the wrong side rows) always roll, but this appears to be worse. I think that my strands might be a little tight, and therefor pulling each side in. Normally, I hate this. With the ugly back created by the stranding, however, I am loving it in this case. This scarf is almost appears a tube, so that around the whole thing you can only see the knitted stitches. Hopefully, Ellie agrees that it is better this way!

I just got your thank you, so I guess you loved the book!!! So did I! Just so you know, she has two others books already published that you can get from any library and a fourth one is due out this spring.

Now I've kind of become obsessed with reading about knitting. All her stuff is nonfiction, but I've started finding fiction novels somewhat based on knitting. One is called Knitting. The one I'm reading now (I've just started) is called The Shop on Blossom Street.

Anyway, now the whole world knows what a dork I am!!!

Glad you loved it!!!
