I miss blogging

I have really missed being on here a few times a day, but as I have whined in the past, my life is crazy right now. I am still knitting constantly of course, but I can knit and do homework, something I can't do with blogging.
So here's a quick update on what I have been working on. I made Kyle a hat last week. Hee. specially requested a design that mimicked a hat he used to wear when he played paintball. It is basically a 20 inch long tube. You slip one side on your head and then tie a rope around the other to keep the cold out. It turned out nice, except just a tad too big. It's wearable, but it could be more snug. I measured his head and then just figured out how many stitches I needed based on the gauge. Well, I learned a trick this weekend that would have made this hat fit better: after figuring out the number of stitches, reduce them by 10% so it fits closer. Good to know. Too bad I found it out too late. Oh well, he's sweet and said he will still wear it. :)
I don't know if I mentioned in a previous post that I also made him a pair of socks. He's got big feet and was having difficulty finding brown socks that fit, so I made him a pair. I think they might be too long...I suck at this measuring thing! Either way, it has been really nice knitting for him.
And last night I started a pair of cotton ankle socks for myself!! Yay. I love that I almost never make anything for myself. As Kyle says its like the shoemakers children who have no shoes. Anyway, I wanted some cute socks for summer that wouldn't be too warm. These somehow didn't turn out too big! :)
I am also working on a scarf for a friend of mine. She is writing a letter of recommendation for me for a job because she used to be my editor at the newspaper, so I wanted to say thank you. I hate asking people to write those stupid things, so I want to show her how much I appreciate it. It was originally going to be a wrap to wear around Christmas time, but I think it will be better as a scarf anyway.
I also bought a couple of past issues of Vogue Knitting on Ebay...I don't really know why. I have so many books/patterns, but oh well, it will be fun to look through them.
I guess that's all for now. Anne, keep us posted on that blankie! :)
